Mathematicians at the University of Limerick say they're closing in on a formula for the perfect cup of coffee.
The research team looked at the science of how filter coffee makers work.
They've found that the most important element affecting the taste is the size of the coffee grounds.
Their mathematical models found that increasing the size of the grind slightly could reduce bitterness and produce a better taste.
The larger grounds allow the hot water to circulate more easily and extract a richer flavour.
