Customs Officers have seized over 22,000 cigarettes worth more than 10,000 euro in an operation in Limerick yesterday.
Officers discovered two steel containers, each concealing over 11,000 'Septwolf' brand cigarettes, when they stopped and searched a vehicle at the Limerick/Cork border yesterday.
In a follow up search at a house in Limerick city a number of items including mobile phones, a tablet PC, and documentation were also seized.
A number of Chinese nationals have been questioned and according to Revenue the investigation is on-going with a view to prosecution.
The agency says the cigarettes represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of 8,100.
