Health Minister James Reilly took off sick last week with strep throat

Howlin refuses to comment on Reilly's claims of cabinet row

A war of words has emerged between the government parties over responsibility for the botched review of medical cards.

James Reilly has told his Fine Gael colleagues that other ministers blocked him from calling a halt to the HSE's controversial review.

Brendan Howlin's confirmed he still has confidence in James Reilly - but has refused to comment on whether he demanded that the review be continued.

Our political correspondent Gavan Reilly reports.
