Customers reporting difficulty getting through to Bank

8,000 current accounts at Danske Bank are closing - with customers advised that they won't be able to access them from Monday.

The bank announced in October that it was closing down its personal banking operations in Ireland.

For customers that have current AND savings accounts - they'll be able to access their funds until February 21st.

Danske says it's dealing with a high volume of queries at present - but that phone lines will be open until 8 pm tonight and 9 to 4.30 tomorrow and Sunday.

Personal Finance Editor with the Irish Independent Charlie Weston says people have been caught unawares;

Customers can contact  1890 866 866 where advisors will assist them as promptly as possible under the circumstances.
