Siobhan O’Neill and her husband Dave have been running a parenting website, www.mumstown.ie since August 2009. They were both made redundant from their jobs and got a small grant from their local enterprise board to help start up this business. So far it has been going well and they have now got over 3,100 members registered users on the site.
The site helps parents all over Ireland communicate and share information, at a national and local level and we offer special services such as ‘Ask the expert’ in ‘Pregnancy & Birth’, ‘Financial’, ‘Vetinary’, ‘Legal’ and soon will be adding ‘Gardening’ and ‘Fitness’ experts too. All these experts offer free advice & support to the members.
Mumstown.ie is free and easy to sign up to and use and can really help parents integrate with their local communities; especially parents who may be out of work or living away from their families and are feeling isolated.
As a new business and still in their first year, they have yet to take in much revenue or even take salaries! They have 3 small children and are working very hard to make the business grow.
