  • The Show is On The Road

This year I’m looking forward to the “Rev up for DSI” run in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland.  It’s a mystery run for bikers taking place on the weekend of May 5th and 6th. It’s my first time to team up with Aidan Lynam and his crew.

Aidan is very well respected in Motorcycling circles. I will be broadcasting the Today FM Top 40 from a secret location on the Sunday but can’t say anything about the location just yet.  I’m always amazed at how generous people are in giving their time and their cash!

There are a number of companies who have also done their bit. Thanks to BMW Motorrad the title sponsor, Pole position travel and Bridgestone Tyres for all the support given. I’ll keep you all updated here and on twitter @philcawley.

There will be no rest for me in June as I will be broadcasting live from Killarney for the Ireland Bike Fest. The event will attract bikers from all over the world on the weekend of June 1st - 30,000 bikers are expected to attend. Live bands will also play over the weekend. It’s a must for all two wheel enthusiasts. I'll be on-air on the Saturday from 11am .

  • Want to know about biking?

When I started biking 12 years ago I hadn’t a clue where to go for lessons, Insurance, clothing and so on. Someone suggested contacting MAG Ireland at the time. I remember thinking that the Motor cycle action group was some sort of militant anti-government, Dail-storming troupe hell bent on changing the Rules of the road by whatever means were necessary. I was wrong.

What I found at the other end of the phone was an extremely helpful and knowledgeable woman who supplied me with all the info I needed to get riding.

Nowadays with the new License and training laws MAG are more relevant that ever. MAG Ireland’s core mandate is to celebrate and promote the freedom that biking lends to motorcyclists in Ireland and to protect the motorcycling interests of its members.

Their membership pool is drawn from a diverse spectrum of individuals who share a common passion, a joy if you like, of motorcycling and the thrill it brings to us on a daily basis. For some this thrill is only achievable when the sun shines, and that’s OK by us.

MAG is a voluntary non-profit organization made up by bikers, for bikers. Some of us are members of MCC’s, some are fair weathered bikers and some, well, just have a love for the biking lifestyle. MAG does not align itself to any political party however they do know who we are. MAG Ireland is the leading riders rights Group in Ireland and we lobby hard on behalf of the owners of the 35,000+ bikes registered in the State.

So boys and girls if you want to learn more? Log in here and see what you think, membership is only forty quid (and less for some) www.magireland.org

  • Bye Bye Bike!

I have changed my bike! Last month I waved a sad goodbye to my BMW LT after six faithful years. We traveled together through the Austrian Alps, Spain, Andorra, Italy and through France. I can honestly say I loved that bike. I really really wanted the new 1600 version but alas the budget outweighed the need.

So I like to think that my new ride is an interim bike. It’s a Kawasaki GTR 1400. It’s a bloody good bike. Do I love it? Ask me in a few months.
