A huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our successful World Recor Attempt - WE DID IT!
The Ray D’Arcy Show broke the World Record for the most heads shaved in 1 hour by a team of 10 barbers as part of Today FM’s Shave or Dye 2011 for the Irish Cancer Society.
The previous record of 229 heads was set in Alberta, Canada in 2006. There have been six unsuccessful attempts to break this record, but on Friday 18th February, with the help and heads of generous and willing listeners, The Ray D’Arcy Show smashed it by shaving an unbelievable 317 people in one hour!
The record was adjudicated by Patricia Magill from the Guinness Book of Records, and at midday on Friday in The Style Club, Dublin 2, Magill confirmed the record had officially been broken. Check out our photos from the day below.
"This is just incredible," said Ray. "Attached to those 315 shaved heads were a phenomenal group of people, who went that little bit further to help an amazing cause, the Irish Cancer Society”
Also on the day, Today FM presenters Ian Dempsey dyed his hair orange, Matt Cooper went purple, Ray Foley and JP Gilbourne went green and blue respectively and Ray D’Arcy, having shaved his head last year, opted for a chest wax!
There are thousands of events still to happen the length and breadth of the country as Today FM listeners embraced the call to Shave or Dye, so thanks to everyone who is taking part. If you haven't contributed yet find out how to get involved at todayfm.com/shaveordye.
