Today FM's Shave Or Dye is back for its third year in 2012!  Having raised more than €2.1 million for the Irish Cancer Society since February 2010, we're hopeful that this year will continue the success with even more people taking part.

What is it?

Today FM's Shave or Dye is an annual charity drive to benefit the Irish Cancer Society. Our inaugural campaign in 2010 saw Today FM presenters ask listeners to sponsor them to shave and dye their hair, and in turn ask them to do the same. The response was phenomenal, as people across the length and breadth of the country raised more than €800,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

We did it all again in early 2011 with an even bigger number of people taking part nationwide and sacrificing their hair for the greater good.  We smashed a world record in the process, and even went international with the Irish Cricket Team sporting shaves and dyes in their historic World Cup victory over England.  Today FM's Shave or Dye 2011 we raised a phenomal €1,317,000.

This year we want to get as many heads as possible involved in Today FM's Shave or Dye so tell your family, friends and work colleagues - if they can't shave or dye then get them to sponsor you to take part.

When is it?

You can shave or dye your hair whenever it suits you best.  You may want to raise a certain amount of sponsorship before hitting the hairdressers or maybe you'd like to do it on a big anniversary/birthday etc.  Whenever you choose is fine by us.

We will be hosting our own big Today FM Shave or Dye day on Friday 17th February, but you do not have to do your own shave or dye on this date, unless you'd like to.

The only thing we ask is that as much of the sponsorship money as possible is sent to the Irish Cancer Society by the end of April.

Who is it for?

Cancer affects 1 in 3 people in Ireland.  The latest data from the National Cancer Registry of Ireland indicates that there were over 29,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in 2010 and this figure is estimated to rise to 43,000 by the year 2020.  That’s why we need your help (and head) more than ever.

If you are concerned about or affected by cancer, please call the National Cancer Helpline on Freefone 1800 200 700 for advice, support and information. Staffed by specialist cancer care nurses and open Monday - Thursday 9am - 7pm and Fridays 9am - 5pm.
