The Irish Cancer Society

The Irish Cancer Society is Ireland’s national cancer charity and they aim to improve the lives of those affected by cancer. They do this by providing up to date information and a range of services, and by influencing change and raising awareness of cancer issues.

The money raised by Today FM's Shave or Dye goes to help many of these aspects of the work of the Irish Cancer Society, so you can be assure that your support will help fund.

  • Cancer Information Service.- offering free, confidential advice, support and information to anyone concerned about cancer.  Freefon 1800 200 200 or email helpline@irishcancer.ie
  • Patient Care and Support - providing free, direct, emotional and practical support for anyone diagnosed with cancer..
  • Cancer Research - funding vital Irish research that will have a significant impact on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The Irish Cancer Society is the largest funder of cancer research in Ireland. In 2011 we committed to investing €3.1 million of research through many new research grants.
  • Financial Aid - funds families in financial hardship who are effected by cancer . The fund is for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer, and are personally unable to meet a specific financial burden that arises exclusively out of a diagnosis or treatment of cancer.
  • Night Nursing - provided nursing care to seriously ill cancer patient in their own home. This service is delivered to the highest standards of care to patients and their families, every night all over Ireland, free of charge.
  • Daffodil Centres - providing information, support and advice to cancer patients, families, friends and healthcare professionals. Staffed by a specialist nurse and trained volunteers, Daffodil Centres are located in 6 major general hospitals and are an invaluable information resource for people on any aspect of cancer.
  • Prevention and Education - providing the public with up-to-date information and community based programs advising on cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment or follow-on care, empowering people facing cancer to cope with the disease.
