Figures show we currently get 7.2 hours of shut eye every night - nearly an hour more than the world average.
This ranks us seventh on a list of more than 50 countries which took part in the study.
It found that people living in nations with a poor work-life balance tend to sleep less than those with better social lives.
Among the worst countries for sleeping are Kuwait, Mexico, Colombia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
The best sleepers are the Dutch, followed by Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Italy, Ireland and Austria.
