A teenage boy is to appear before Limerick City District Court today charged in relation to the theft of 14 bicycles.

They were stolen over a three-month period this year.

Gardaí arrested the teenager in connection with the offences yesterday.

He was brought to Henry Street Gardaí Station and was subsequently charged.

Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Ber Leech has advised anyone who has a bike stolen to report it immediately.

Sgt Leech said that bikes should be secured tightly to an immovable object and the lock be kept off the ground to make it more difficult for a thief.

He added: "Take a photo of your bike, note the serial number and email it back to yourself so you have a record of it.

"Of the 14,000 or so bikes stolen since 2016, we have only approximately 16% of the bicycle frame numbers recorded".

The teenager in this case will appear before Limerick City District Court this afternoon.
