Eason Spelling Bee 2019 | To Bee Or Not To Bee?
Well readers, it’s that time of the year again where schools around the country can register for the Eason Spelling Bee!
As most parents, teachers and students know, taking part in the competition is a huge honour and one which comes with an impressive overall prize.
Next year’s winning school will receive a €7,500 library of books for their school. What an important prize to win!
This will ensure students have a great range of reading material (so important for expanding minds) for years and years to come.
While the Spelling Bee is celebrating turning 9 years old next year, Today FM has been lucky enough to be involved in the competition for the past three years. Earlier this year, our own Alison Curtis hosted the semi-finals and the All Ireland final. Here’s what she had to say about her amazing experience:
“I was so privileged to be part of such a family event this year with the Eason Spelling Bee, not only were all of the competitors so impressive and inspirational it was fantastic to meet their families and supporters along the way.
'You can see the affect the competition has on our brilliant young minds in Ireland and inspiring them to read more and enjoy books on so many levels!” Alison Curtis, Presenter - Weekend Breakfast
So, if you’re a teacher or a parent of any clever little bees, here’s everything you need to know…
Simply fill in the entry form at Easons.com/spellingbee on or before 14th January 2019. Once registrations close in January you will be sent out an Eason Spelling Bee pack so you can run your own Spelling Bee to find the best speller in your 5th, 6th Class (ROI) or Primary 7 Class (NI).
Every school that enters will send their school champion to take part in their local County Spelling Bee final, the locations of which will be announced early next year. These County Spelling Bee’s will then take place between February and May.
The winners of each county final will then compete in the provincial semi-finals, hosted by Alison and covered on TodayFM.com! Then, the All Ireland Eason Spelling Bee Champion will be crowned in June.
