Nostalgia Time!

Every Friday is Flashback on Friday Night 80s. So here's a dose of nostalgia to get you ready for this weeks show!

05 September

1981 - Stevie Nicks went to No.1 on the US album with Bella Donna.

The album featured classic tracks like ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ (the Tom Petty duet), ‘Leather and Lace’ (with Don Henley), ‘Edge of Seventeen’ and ‘After the Glitter Fades.’

06 September

1986 - All girl group Bananarama went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Venus'.

The song had also been a No.1 for Dutch group Shocking Blue in 1970. After its worldwide success, 'Venus' became the group's signature song.

07 September

1985 - David Bowie and Mick Jagger were at No.1 on the UK singes chart with their version of the Martha Reeves and The Vandellas 1964 hit 'Dancing In The Street.'

The song had been recorded as part of the Live Aid charity appeal. The original plan was to perform a track together live, with Bowie performing at Wembley Stadium and Jagger at the JFK Stadium, until it was realised that the satellite link-up would cause a half-second delay that would make this impossible.

08 September

1988 - Elton John sold some of his costumes and concert memorabilia at an auction in London for $6.2 million.

Before Lady Gaga made frog-head dresses fashionable, Sir Elton was wearing whatever LOUD costume he wanted to, including keyboard hats and mustard yellow jackets, both on-stage and off.

09 September

1989 - Italian based Black Box started a six-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Ride On Time'.

The track sampled the noncredit use of Loleatta Holloway's song 'Love Sensation', who objected resulting in a settlement that paid the singer an undisclosed sum. New pressings had M People singer Heather Small singing the vocals. Biggest selling single of 1989.

10 September

1980 - 'She's So Cold' by the Rolling Stones was released.

Recording on the song started in early 1979. The single peaked at #33 in the UK Singles Chart and #26 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 1980.

11 September

1987 - Peter Gabriel cleaned up at this year's MTV Awards.

He won best video, best male video, best concept video, best special effects and five other awards for the track 'Sledgehammer'.
