Did someone say road trip?

It's been on your bucket list for ages so why not make 2018 the year you finally do that trip around Ireland? With thousands of kilometres worth of country roads to choose from, we are spoilt for choice in this little island of ours.

Luckily for you though, we've whittled it down to five must-see road trips:

1. The Bay Coast

The Wild Atlantic Way is a great shout in general but while the full 2,500km route may be a little ambitious, the Bay Coast section is a little more doable. Take in the crystal waters of Erris, meander your way through the rugged coast of Connemara and watch sun set against the backdrop of the Aran Islands.

2. The Ring of Kerry

There's a reason this gem is a popular tourist spot. The 179km round-trip can be done in one day and the pint of Guinness you can buy in the various little villages along the way is second to none. Just make sure someone else is driving, yeah?

3. The Burren Route

County Clare is one of the most untouched landscapes in the country. Marvel at the bare, pale grey limestone scenery, head in for tea at the Father Ted house, pop into the Ailwee Caves and stop off at quaint villages like Ennistimon, Kilfenora and Doolin along your route.

4. The Wicklow Mountains

If you're looking for a trip close to The Pale, this is the one for you. Drive through the Old Military Road through Glencree and into the wilderness of the mountains. Between Glenmacnass Waterfall, Glendalough and the Sugar Loaf - you won't be short of stunning sights that'll take your breath away.

5. The Causeway Coastal Route

Taking in the northern coast of Ireland, this route from Derry to Belfast encompasses some of the country's stand-out landmarks like the Giants Causeway, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and of course, the many breath-taking sights from Game of Thrones.
