Is This The Most Important Mental Health Message Of The Year?

Well known for bringing mental health to the forefront of Irish conversations, The Rubberbandits have steadily shone a light on mental health and suicide awareness.

Mr Chrome and Blindboy Boatclub champion charities like Pieta House and tackle the Government's role and responsibility.

Their Guide To Mental Health video airing during Des Bishop's Election Special on RTE last year, has now garnered over 665k views on Facebook alone. Clearly speaking to a population in need of better services.

They've now released what we reckon is one of the most important mental health message of the year. Their new track Sonny plunges into suicide and how it effects each person differently.

Blindboy Boatclub told producer Kate that their powerful new song "addresses the complexity of the conversation around suicide from multiple perspectives".

With lyrics like "Exhausted from existing" and "You're important to someone, so put down the rope", blows away the stigma, pulls the 'reasons' behind it out of the shadows and gives belief.

Have a look at the video below, show it to someone and see if it makes a difference.

Because of this, Today FM supported this message by playing Sonny in full on Lost In Music last night.

If you like what you hear, The Rubberbandits are playing Vicar Street on September 30th, Belfast Mandella Hall on October 7th, Cork Opera House on October 13th after playing V Festival, Reading and Leeds and a 12 night sold out run in London.
