Louise Duffy tells us all about her fave singers from Game of Thrones.

I can’t get enough of Game of Thrones. It’s taking over and creeping into every facet of my life. Stalwart fans in my family have a dedicated Whatsapp support group which buzzes incessantly with theories and thoughts. I have tried to coerce my husband/father/neighbours to watch from the beginning so I have a valid excuse to re-watch too (this will only take you 2 days and 14 hours – DO IT!).

I spend the rest of my time pestering my friend who appears as a White Walker extra to give me any spoiler free information. And I’m willing every week to whizz by until it’s Monday night, whilst simultaneously wishing the weeks would just go a little bit slower, because what will I do when it’s all over?

So it was only a matter of time before Game of Thrones sullied my work life. So under the guise of ‘working’ let me talk about music and Game of Thrones.

There has been much ado about the latest musical cameo to feature in Game of Thrones. Poor Ed Sheeran. Dressed jauntily as Lannister solider singing by a campfire, surely didn’t expect the backlash his appearance provoked. There have always been ties to singers and musicians since the very first season, so why would he?

Coldplay’s Will Campion added his vocals to the third season. Of Monsters and Men appeared in what was one of the most devastating episodes to date, The Door. Oh Hodor.

And season four saw the appearance of Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol fame and Sigur Ros of Sigur Ros fame. So you can imagine poor Ed felt quite comfortable getting involved in a happy campfire singsong. But perhaps because the end is nigh, we have less tolerance for gratuitous cameos. We have limited time with our favourite characters and unlimited questions which require answers, so every scene is vital.

But there have been a number of characters who actually lead double lives with successful musical careers outside the  seven kingdoms. These we can tolerate, and celebrate. So here are my favourite three:

HOLD THE DOOR DJ

Kristan ‘Hodor’ Nairn is a successful DJ, and can now count ‘Face of KFC’ to his many talents.

Ramsay is bada$$

Iwan Rheon who plays the hateful Ramsay Bolton with such aplomb released his debut album Dinard, back in 2015, which was as heartfelt and soulful as Ramsay is brutal and nasty.

Greyworm got bars!

But by far the most diverse appearance on screen is that of Jacob Anderson, good ol Grey Worm. As tight-lipped as he may appear on screen, when he kicks off that Unsullied uniform, he is the voice behind Raleigh Ritchie.

He released this last year.
