Will it be Morrissey, Bono, or Sam Smith?

Every Sunday we look back at the musicians who’ve made the headlines in the music press during the week.

Our first contender for Artist of the Week is Sam Smith, whose song Writing’s On the Wall has been revealed as the theme tune of the new Bond movie Spectre.

The singer took to Twitter to say he’d been dreaming of this moment “ for a long long time".

Smith then went on BBC Radio One and revealed it had taken just 20 minutes to write.

He was speaking from Mexico, which he said, he used to think was in Germany.

But now, he knows where he is.

He's back again

Also in the running for Artist of the Week is Morrissey, who published his first novel List of the Lost.

The reviews have been appalling, however the Literary Review says Morrissey is a contender for this year’s Bad Sex in Fiction Award.

A spokesperson described the writing as “convoluted, overwrought and profoundly unsexy” – which makes it an obvious frontrunner.

Here's a taste of it:

"Eliza and Ezra rolled together into the one giggling snowball of full-figured copulation, screaming and shouting as they playfully bit and pulled at each other in a dangerous and clamorous rollercoaster coil of sexually violent rotation with Eliza’s breasts barrel-rolled across Ezra’s howling mouth and the pained frenzy of his bulbous salutation extenuating his excitement as it smacked its way into every muscle of Eliza’s body except for the otherwise central zone."

What is a central zone?  And on what part of the female anatomy is it found?

The final nominee for Artist of The Week is Bono

U2 hit the headlines because their show in Stockholm was abandoned after a gunman apparently tried to enter the venue.

The band rescheduled the gig and weren’t at all phased.   Bono had a bigger fish to fry anyhow...

On Friday he published a long article in The Irish Times calling for a Marshall Plan to stop humanitarian crises, which he said were "a kick to the collective gut".

He also asked readers not to "projectile vomit" - but digestive metaphors aside – he made some good points about global poverty and inequality.

Which one of them will be crowned Neil's Artist of the Week?
