Gardai are urging motorists to reduce speed and slow down.

Garda Chief Superintendent Finbar Murphy has this advice for motorists driving on unfamiliar roads.

So the key to reducing injuries in the event of somebody having a crash is to have your seat belt on, but above all to slow down."
