Bill Kenneally Loses Appeal Over The Severity Of His Sentence
A former basketball coach who groomed and abused young boys in Waterford has lost an appeal against his jail sentence.
Bill Kenneally of Summerville Avenue in Waterford was jailed for 14 years in 2016 after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting 10 boys in the 1980s.
The 67 year old had argued that the sentence was grossly excessive but the Court of Appeal didnt agree with him.
Speaking outside court, one of his victims Colin Power said justice had been served.
He said it sends out a fairly strong message to paedophiles and people who sexually abuse that you can be sent to jail for 14 years.
Another abuse survivor Jason Clancy also spoke outside court.
Abuse survivor, Jason Clancy, says he’s delighted Bill Kenneally has lost his appeal against his 14 year jail sentence. He says children in Waterford are now safe and will never have to worry about him. pic.twitter.com/7Mbp1O0Rvz— Stephanie Grogan (@StephGrogan3) February 22, 2018
