The British Foreign Secretary insists yesterday's missile strikes were solely about the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons.
Boris Johnson says the military action had nothing to do with forcing a regime change or "trying to turn the tide" of the Syrian conflict.
He's told the BBCs Andrew Marr Show that the global taboo on the use of chemical weapons has been eroded over recent years.
He says the joint action from the US, UK and France shows that the world has finally said enough is enough;
"There's one overwhelming reason why this was the right thing to do and that is to deter the use of chemical weapons, not just by the Assad regime but around the world.
And I think one of the most distressing things about the events of the last few years is the growth, the contemptuous growth and use of chemical weapons in the Syrian theatre of conflict."
Prior to Mr. Johnson's interview on the BBC, he had tweeted his support for the allies air strikes:
