There are concerns Netflix poses a threat to cinema

Netflix films have been banned from competing at the Cannes Film festival.

The prestigious event in the south of France has made the controversial move amid concerns that the streaming service poses a threat to cinemas.

Last year, two Netflix originals, Okja and The Mayerowitz Stories were allowed to compete, despite not being shown in French cinemas.

During the screenings, critics booed the Netflix logo when it appeared.
