France To Suspend Fuel Tax Hikes Following National Protests
France is to suspend new fuel tax hikes which were due to take effect in January.
Prime Minister Edouard Philippe is to announce a suspension of the controversial price increases in a move to end 'yellow vest' protests against the measure.
On Saturday the demonstrations turned violent resulting in clashes with police. Roads were blocked, cars burned out and statues at the iconic Arc de Arc de Triomphe in Paris were smashed.
The suspension would be President Emmanuel Macron's first significant U-turn on a major policy since taking power in 2017.
