Supreme Court denies application from former Councillor

The Supreme Court has refused to grant a retrial of former Fine Gael town Councillor Fred Forsey.

Mr. Forsey was jailed in 2012 after being convicted of receiving €80,000 from a developer while he was a member of Dungarvan Town Council.

He denied the corruption charges and successfully appealed his conviction last month.

In its unanimous verdict today, the Supreme Court ruled the public interest benefit was outweighed by the unfairness of putting him through another trial, especially considering he had already served a prison sentence.
