The Department of Social Protection is to provide emergency funds to Donegal residents affected by the flooding.
Around 200 homes were destroyed and bridges and roads were washed away when 80 mm or rain fell in just a few hours on Tuesday night.
Today, people are still assessing the damage.
Hundreds of people evacuated from their homes and tourist attractions have also suffered including the popular Glenevin Waterfall.
Roads and bridges were washed away and the council is working on reopening the major routes.
While residents say that no one could have prepared for that amount of rain there are questions being raised as to whether Donegal County Council could have done more to prepare flood defences in high risk areas
The Department of Social Protection has activated its humanitarian assistance fund which provides money for essential goods and household items. It says it's demand led and there's no cap on the amount that can be paid to each individual household.
Anyone in need of assistance is asked to contact their local social welfare office or the department of social protection
