Half of all TV viewers have had a top show accidentally spoiled by a friend, colleague, relative or social media.
The research by Virgin Media found that about 1.3 million people are likely to have called in sick to work so they could watch the gripping final episode of a series.
And 2.7 million people have cancelled social plans in case one of their friends revealed the secrets of the previous night's show.
