Hundreds of survivors of the Magdalene Laundries will gather in the same place for the first time ever today.

Survivors from Ireland, the UK, America and Australia are all being brought together in Dublin over the next two days.

It's for a consultation on how the experiences of the women who worked and lived in the institutions should be remembered.

The President will also host a special reception for the women at Aras an Uachtarain.

A survivor of the Magdalene Laundries says it's important that the people of Ireland remember what they've been through.

Josie Keane is one of over 200 survivors who have gathered together in Dublin for the first time ever.

It’s a chance for the women to share their stories and to see how they feel their experiences should be remembered in the future.

Josie from Cork says she's still has nightmares about what she went through.

"For years no-one knew what was going on with any of us inside closed doors. I was 15 when I went in there. It tore me apart like, I'd nightmares and everything since the day I left. I'm always thinking I'm back there again."
