Maurice McCabe To Retire From Midnight
Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe is to retire from the force.
His retirement comes three weeks after the publication of the Disclosures Tribunal report which vindicated Sergeant McCabe.
The Irish Examiner reports that Sergeant McCabe, met the force's Assistant Commissioner over the weekend and applied for retirement.
The whistelblower's application was accepted and will take effect from midnight tonight.
As he has served the required 30 years, Sergeant Maurice McCabe is entitled to retire on a full pension.
It follows the publication of the Disclosures Tribunal report, which found that McCabe was the victim of an orchestrated smear campaign by former Garda commissioner Martin Callinan and former press officer Dave Taylor.
The state is facing a significant payout to Sergeant McCabe who is also taking a case against the child and family agency Tusla, over the mishandling of a false allegation against him.
