OCI President Only Recently Obtained Contracts With Ticket Firm THG

The Oireachtas Sport Committee has heard details of the difficult relationship between the old OCI board and Sport Ireland.

Representatives from both organisations have been answering questions on the Moran report into the Rio ticketing scandal.

OCI President Sarah Keane says huge strides have been made in changing the culture of the organisation, and a reform agenda is underway in terms of corporate governance.

Head of Sport Ireland John Treacy says former President Pat Hickey was highly critical of the then Sports Council in 2009, and the government didn’t step in;

The President of the Olympic Council of Ireland Sarah Keane says she only obtained copies last month - of contracts signed with with ticket firm The Hospitality Group.

The firm has recently been rejected as ticket sellers for next year's Winter Olympics, and was previously barred from selling tickets for the OCI in Rio.

Sarah Keane says she asked her predecessor Pat Hickey if there were future agreements with THG:

It emerged this week that if Mr Hickey were to get a position on the International Olympics Committee, he’d automatically get a role on the board of the OCI.

Earlier OCI President Sarah Keane was asked her thoughts on the possibility of Mr Hickey returning to the OCI.

She said it would create significant difficulty for the current board.Meanwhile, the Moran report on the Rio ticketing scandal might be referred to the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement.

Sport Minister Shane Ross says he’s considering whether to involve the ODCE, but says he will ask the International Olympics Committee’s ethics committee to investigate.

OCI President Sarah Keane says the new board has a different culture, and has been proactive about improving corporate governance.
