Households will now pay around €21 a year

Waste company Panda is to start charging for its green recycling bin from next month.

It's blaming the move on China which recently banned the importing of waste from European countries.

Households will now pay 80 cents per lift and just under 5 cents for every kilo, or around 21 euro a year.

It will affect 125-thousand customers in Dublin before the regime is rolled out elsewhere.

Head of recycling Des Crinion says they won't be increasing its new charges for at least 5 years, 'I'm quite confident to say that this is it, this is a subsidy to help us to continue recycling'.
