Former world tennis number one Serena Williams says she "almost died" after giving birth to her daughter Alexis last year.
The 23-time grand slam winner wrote an article for CNN saying a lung condition caused several complications - and she had to spend six weeks in bed recovering.
She wrote, 'It began with a pulmonary embolism, which is a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs becomes blocked by a blood clot.' She continued, 'This sparked a slew of health complications that I am lucky to have survived.'
Williams returned to the sport alongside her sister Venus in America's Fed Cup win over the Netherlands earlier this month.
