There's been a major surge in support for Sinn Féin in the latest opinion poll.

The Rec C poll for tomorrow's Sunday Business Post shows Fianna Fail as the most popular party, though its lead over Fine Gael is smaller than in other polls.

The survey, taken between Monday and Wednesday, has a margin of error of three per cent.

And all but two changes recorded in the poll are within that amount.

The only ones outside it are Sinn Féin - which sees its support surge by five points in the last month, to 19 per cent; and independents who slide four points to 10.

Sinn Fein's 19 puts it seven points behind Fianna Fáil, which is the most popular party on 26 per cent, down one.

However its lead over Fine Gael - which is unchanged on 24 - is just two points.

That's much more modest than two polls for other newspapers in the last fortnight - which put the lead at 11 and eight points.

Independents are on 10, the triple-A People Before Profit on six, the Greens and Labour tied on four; the Independent Alliance and the Social Democrats on three points each, and Renua is on one.
