Temperatures this week could dip to -9 degrees as a cold spell is forecast.
The cold air coming from Siberia has been nicknamed the 'Beast from the East'.
Met Eireann has issued a status yellow warning for exceptionally cold weather until next Friday, with snow showers predicted from Tuesday onwards.

Alan O'Reilly from http://www.carlowweather.com/ says records could be broken for temperatures at this time of year.
