They say a week is a long time in politics but the past week in Tipperary has seen both sides of the emotional spectrum experienced by residents of the county and further afield.

One Sunday the Premier Senior hurlers are preparing for the 2016 All Ireland Senior hurling final against Kilkenny and would emerge 9 point winners over the cats in as impressive a final display ever seen.

12 months previously it looked like Noel McGrath was on course for a dream ending to his year.

Coming on as a sub against Galway in last years semi final months after having battled testicular cancer, his point wasnt enough to edge Tipp past the tribesmen. The photo of Anthony Cunningham consoling Noel McGrath after the final whistle was one of the enduring images of last season.

Fast forward 12 months to the following September Sunday when Mick Ryans players took to the field as the Tipp minors were still celebrating their All Ireland win thanks to Liam Cahills stewardship.

An hour and a half later one Tipperary family was celebrating three All Ireland winners. Brian McGrath captained the minors to victory while Noel and John McGrath played key roles in dethroning the cats.

The same Sunday was also the first morning in the life of Lily Rose Kenny daughter of Nicola Kenny from Kennedy Park Thurles who's grandfather Paddy won the last of three All Ireland senior hurling medals in a row in 1952.

As the Liam McCarthy and Irish Press cups were raised aloft in front of thousands in Semple stadium Monday night in Thurles, a few streets away in the town where the GAA was born, the Kenny family was mourning Nicola who had been a mother for just a day before tragically losing her life on the M8 between Cahir and Cashel after a truck ploughed into their stationary car.

As the week wore on news of the tragedy numbed all who learned of Nicolas passing and exhiliration turned to sadness.

Tipp corner back Mickey Cahill presented a jersey signed by the 2016 All Ireland winners which was draped over Nicola's coffin.

All sides of human emotion in a week.
All sides of human emotion in a county.
All sides of human emotion in the town of Thurles.

As long as we remember the 2016 All Ireland wins we will remember Nicola.

Ar dheis de go raibh si.

In remembering the great week that was in the Premier County we couldn't reflect without remembering one of the most tragic tales you'll ever hear. Our thoughts are with those she has left behind.

Nicola's passing should make us appreciate those great moments even more.

Celebrate life. Make every moment precious.

Here's the Today FM celebration of the Tipp All Ireland win followed by Noel McGraths take on an incredible year in his life.
