Motor insurance quotes have been steadily rising over the past few years.

However, if you think yours is high, spare a thought for Brian Kelly, who was recently quoted €19,328,26 to renew his car insurance.

Brian, from Slane in Co. Meath, was completely shocked when he first saw the figure and initially thought it was sent in error.

Brian drives a 2007 Toyota Avensis worth around €2,500, and was utterly confused as to how he could be sent such a sky-high quote.

When Brian rang his insurance company, Liberty Insurance, he was told he had two outstanding claims against him, one in Navan in 2016 and one in Slane in 2017.

At the time of the €19,000 quote Brian, who works with suicide awareness voluntary group Save Our Sons and Daughters, was with Liberty Insurance for 17 years.

He also had a nine year no-claims bonus.

According to Brian, he wasn't speeding at the time of the two tips, and there was very little damage done to either car

After the incidents, two separate personal injuries claims were made, which resulted in the hike in Brian's premium.

Liberty Insurance have since reduced the quote by €12,000 but Brian is still facing a cost of €7,000 to insure his car, which is worth €2,500, for the year.

Liberty Insurance have not yet responded to Today FM's request for comment.
