1980 - AC/DC released their sixth studio album 'Back In Black'.

This was the first AC/DC album the band recorded without former lead singer Bon Scott, who died on 19 February this year at the age of 33. To date, the album has sold an estimated 49 million copies worldwide, making it the second highest-selling album of all time, and the best-selling hard rock or heavy metal album of all time.

July 26

1986 - Peter Gabriel went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Sledgehammer'.

The song was a No.4 hit in the UK. It’s music video has won a number of awards, including a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards, and Best British Video at the 1987 Brit Awards. Gabriel was also nominated for three Grammy Awards. As of 2011, 'Sledgehammer' is the most played music video in the history of MTV.

1986 - Queen became the first western act since Louis Armstrong in 1964 to perform in Easton Europe when they played at Budapest's Nepstadion, Hungary,

The gig was filmed and released as ‘Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Magic in Budapest'. It was released on on DVD, Blu-ray and Deluxe Editions for the first time on 5 November 2012 worldwide, except in the United States where it was released a day later.

1980 - The Police, U2 and Squeeze all appeared at the Dalymount Festival in Dublin.

1981 - On the day of the wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana, a bunch of records were released relating to the event, 'Lady D', by Typically Tropical, 'Charlies Angles', by Mini & The Metros and 'Diana', from Mike Berry. They all failed to reach the charts.

July 30

1986 - Boy George was fined £250 by a London court for possession of heroin.

George had been struggling with heroin addiction for many years and had attempted to perform concerts while under its influence. Addictions to other drugs soon followed. Determined to save George's life, his younger brother David made an appearance on UK national television and discussed George's drug habit, which George had been publicly denying at that time.

July 31

1982, Survivor's 'Eye Of The Tiger' was at No.1 on the US album chart.

The song, which was commissioned by actor Sylvester Stallone for the theme for the movie Rocky III, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song and went on to sell over five million copies.
