As adults now we may see a flashy new car, owning a house, top label clothes etc. as a status symbol but growing up as a child in Ireland it was very different.

There was always little things that made us well jel.

And there was always a Richie Rich kid who had the proper designer gear and not the knock-offs!

I once owned a 'Calven Kleine' T-Shirt. Lasted for years and nobody noticed. We weren't the brightest.

The Fergal D'Arcy Show asked for your Pinncales Of Wealth As Kids Growing Up:

Ferg...when I was a kid anyone who owned a soda stream was rich beyond my wildest dreams!

Yo dude.. having a soda stream didn’t make ya rich.. having the gas AND the syrups for it was the rich part!! Twas often we’d have to try and make fizzy milk or just plain old water just to get a kick out of the machine!! Ahh the 80s!

Fergal it was people having Sky on the tv, we only had the two channels, then three and finally four. Used to despise people gloating about a tv show on sky in school ...Sean in Kilkenny

The pinnacle of wealth was the Raleigh Burner BMX with the mag wheels that the spoiled little sh1t on our street had while we were all on poor crappy imitations !! Jay

Fridge with the double doors and ice dispenser.

Fergal, my parents got a big colour TV with a remote control (approx 1970), and all the kids on the road came in for a look! My parents used to leave it on the telly and get up to change channels! Jim

Howaya Ferg, only one guy in the class called Joey had capri sun in his lunch capri sun i tell ya!

If you had a ham sambo you were loaded. Rest of us had jam. Jimmy Kilkenny

It was only 30 years ago but if a child had sandwich for lunch with ham and cheesee they were considered rich. We had then with home made jam. Ela, drogheda

Ferg , friends with a lad in school , bout ten years old , got invited in by parents . No word of a lie . A dam packman game in sitting room , pub table type . Paddy

Hi Ferg. For me it was the kid that had the Clarks magic steps shoes. Those kids were loaded. Claire.

When I was young, you knew somebody was minted if he could get a bag of Rancheros and a Brunch while the rest of us with Taytos and Mr Freeze!

A super soaker when I had only a small water pistol or water balloons

Oh yeah.. only the rich kids had Frosties... the rest of us had plain cornflakes(soaked in sugar)

Ferg. Growing up, 2 car family = rich
