For years now, we've been warned not to upload too much personal information online, as it could be used against us if sites were ever hacked. But what if the outlets we use every day, the 'safe' social media platforms, were the ones we needed to be weary of?.
Well after a major sting by Channel 4 over the weekend, this fear has now become reality, as data mining company Cambridge Analytica, alongside Facebook, were found to have harvested and used personal information to influence the 2016 American Presidential Election.
Channel 4's Chief Correspondent Alex Thompson was on the phone line this morning to give us more information on the data breach. He explained the methods used by the companies in order to target swing voters, and how likely it is that Russia were also involved.
