Lots of people are travelling to the UK to buy a car due to the current value of sterling.
But are you really better off buying an import, or buying your car from an Irish outlet?
Ger Toger, Chief Commercial Officer with carsireland.ie, warns that although there is definitely value at the moment in buying cars from the UK, there are a lot of risks involved if you're not an experienced shopper.
Although you might get a warranty on your car, Ger says this might only apply in the UK. There is also no option for trading in the vehicle, and there are extra costs to factor in when it comes to travelling to the UK itself, as well as organising VRT and number plates at home.
Our motoring expert Michael Sheridan adds that there have been 100,000 used imports brought into Ireland this year, and many Irish dealerships are also buying up UK cars.
Although there are many places in Northern Ireland that will allow you to trade in your car, he agrees that there are still risks involved.
