For the past few years, the names Jack, James, Sean, Emily, Sophie and Emma have all been tossed about in the top five most popular names in Ireland.
But there has been a massive change in the popularity of other names over the last century.
According to a survey by Ancestry.ie, the names Sheila, Ethel, Garrett and Herbert are virtually extinct- whereas Gertrude, Muriel, Cecil and Norman have seemingly disappeared.
These figures have been taken from the years 1917-2017. Over 11,000 newborns were called Mary in 1917 in comparison to 64 being recorded last year.
The names Patrick and William are now at risk, plus John has plummeted down the list.
Speaking on Dermot and Dave, Ancestry.ie's Russell James explained why there has been a sharper decline in girl's names by saying, "I don't know if it's because men's names tend to be passed down through the family".
And it appears technology (and our laziness) has also contributed to the changes as Russell claims, "when texting, none of us could be bothered to type out whole words (names) any more" which results in the likes of "Elizabeth, far less common, but Liz and Beth are sorta growing in popularity".
Adam and Harry have seen a significant increase too.
