The Riptide Movement have joined the fight against plastic pollution by teaming up with Clean Coasts for their 'Plastic Oceans' campaign.
The band's lead singer Mal Tuohy and lead guitarist JPR Dalton joined us in studio to discuss how they came to be involved.
Mal's interest began two years ago when he saw a documentary on Netflix called The Plastic Ocean and was inspired to write two songs to raise awareness of the issue.
He says, "I found it really disturbing how our use of plastic was damaging the environment and particularly marine life."
The band got in touch with Clean Coasts, which led to a three-part web series on the plastic crisis here in Ireland and possible solutions to the problem.
"Everyone has to play their part, from the government to the producers to the consumer, and if we all play our part we can turn the tide really quickly."
