Our good friend Gavin James was back in studio this morning and this time, he has plenty of cause for celebration.
He's released his second album, has three sold out dates at The Olympia and has just been announced to headline the 3 Countdown Concert on New Year's Eve.
He told Ian this morning how excited he is to ring in 2019 at one of the biggest gigs in the country:
"I'm chuffed. I've always wanted to do that gig", he said "I was watching Kodaline at it last year - it was huge".
Just like the rest of us, Gavin started out learning the basics on the old reliable - the tin whistle.
"When I was 13 or 12 ... I was doing the solos for November Rain on the tin whistle ... Ma and Da were like 'You should probably get a guitar'".
Fast forward a couple of years and that guitar has led him to a whopping 30,000 sales on his debut album 'Bitter Pill' and a double platinum disc, which Iano presented to him this morning:
The brilliant @gavinjames performed two songs from his new album this morning on @TodayFM. (Video on the way later).
We also presented him with a disc for 30,000 sales of his first album. Amazing feat! ðŸ‘🻠pic.twitter.com/W2GdNpiggN— Ian Dempsey (@IanDempsey) November 2, 2018
Gavin also chatted how he met his girlfriend, making bets with his dad and performed two songs off the new album live.
He's playing the INEC Killarney, The Royal Theatre Castlebar and the 3Countdown Concert in December before returning to the capital to play three sold out nights at The Olympia in April.
Here he is doing his thang:
