What is it about a bit of ash? Even the United Nations recognise it as a unique part of Ireland's heritage. Legend has it that Cu Chulainn drove a sliotar over the Cooley mountains at one stage and while the Irish Puc Fada takes place over the bank holiday weekend, the international counterpart is run off in the Austrian alps each January.

GAA greats such as Brendan Cummins, Ollie Canning and Damien Fitzhenry to name but a few, have made the journey as part of the Today FM Ski Trip every year to show punters how it's done and present the medals to the winners.

That's not as easy as it sounds as Waterford senior hurling ledge Ken McGrath found out.

Limerick senior hurling star Gavin O Mahony was on hand for this year's renewal.

The bould @gavinom6 mightn't have driven it beyond the women's teebox but was present to hand out the medals in the 2019 @todayfm Puc Fada to camogie winner Maria Jones  from Moneygall, Tipperary, second placed Laura Curran, Galway and third placed Katie Cunningham, Cork.

Stephen "snoopdog" Diviney, from Beagh, Galway took the men's title, edging out fellow countyman and former winner Paddy O Connell, of Carnmore in Galway.

While in the week that he claimed the Mid Tipp footballer of the year award Louis Everard, of the Moyne Templetuohy club can consider himself unlucky that another trophy didn't make its way to Tipperary.

Underlining her capacity for multi tasking and multi skilling Today FM Programme Director Adelle Nolan was the official photographer to the event.

The jaeger didn't help many competitors as it turned out.
