Bus Eireann drivers are starting to abandon their pickets at Irish Rail and Dublin Bus depots.

The secondary demonstrations stopped hundreds of thousands of passengers using public transport this morning and knock-on delays are likely to continue throughout the day.

Irish Rail said practically all DART, Dublin Commuter and Intercity routes were cancelled - while the vast majority of Dublin Bus services were not running this morning.

The transport companies have been tweeting updates but advising delays:

Workers were demonstrating solidarity with their Bus Eireann colleagues whose all-out strike over cuts has entered its eight day.

Passengers are advised to check the Irish Rail and Dublin Bus websites for full details.

Transport Minister Shane Ross condemned what he calls the "unofficial and unjustified protest" and says his first concern is for the passengers affected.
