Author Peter Donnelly chats to Iano about his irresitibily fun story...

Irish artist, illustrator of children's books and true Dub, Peter Donnelly was on the phone line this morning to us all about his new (and first time) book, "The President's Glasses".

Not mentioning who this particular president is (but we all know), Peter has based the character on a person he reveres to tell a whimsical tale centred around a forgetful president and his ever ready pigeon.

The story starts in Phoenix Park as the leader sets out on a journey to sign some very important documents at Dublin Castle, but forgets his specs. Luckily the 007-like 'presidential pigeon' knows exactly what is happening and takes in a bird's eye view of the capital in an attempt to save the day.

Even though it is primarily a children's picture book, Peter hopes the it will help parents engage in the reading too. With it's beautifully illustrated scenes of Dublin city and it's landmarks, the idea is an ode to similar styled books from decades gone by, yet is brought up to date with some 2017 influences.

The author told Ian how overwhelmed he has been by the response and support he has received since it's launch last week, and how he really hopes that Michael D has had a read of it himself. He is also working on a follow-up with Gill Books, and teases us with a possible cartoon series

"The President's Glasses" is a classy piece of work, perfect for all of the family to get involved in and have a chuckle with.

Available at all good bookstores now - so get one while you can.
