But imagine if you were mistakingly enrolled into a school for superheroes, and you’re the only kid with no superpowers!

Murph Cooper knows all about it and is the star of Kid Normal, the warm and hilarious new children’s book by BBC Radio 1’s Chris Smith & Greg James. Murph proves that you don’t have to have superpowers to save the day, even if there’s an evil half-man, half-wasp villain on the loose.

Kid Normal is Chris and Greg’s debut children’s book and, since it’s publication in July, has been topping best sellers lists worldwide and subject to the raviest of rave reviews.

Radio nerds will know Greg James as the host of BBC Radio 1’s drivetime show and he tends to pop up on your TV screen quite a bit too, including co-hosting the BBC’s annual Children In Need show.

Chris Smith will also be a familiar name and voice to the aforementioned radio nerds. He is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster who presents Newsbeat on BBC Radio 1 as well as featuring quite regularly on the drivetime show with Greg.

Shelly caught up with Chris & Greg in a very grand library in Bloomsbury Publishing HQ in London for a solid 20 minutes or so. And then she remembered to press record (you had one job!).

Luckily, Chris and Greg are two of the nicest people you could possibly meet (‘absolute sounders’, to quote Shelly) so they chatted again about all things Kid Normal, log cabins made out of ice, making up new words for ‘Collin’ to put into his dictionary, pizza, foghorning, Michael Palin, and Sir Terry Wogan.
