It's officially day one of Dare to Care (woop!)

Arriving into Today FM HQ, we were overwhelmed with how many of you have flooded our inbox (daretocare@todayfm.com) with dares for our presenters, challenges for our staff, stories of how they have been affected by cancer as well as their own fundraising ideas. THIS IS WHY WE LOVE WHAT WE DO!

There was one particular email that sparked our interest.

Galway man Stephen Griffin was in touch to tell us "I'm taking part in Hell and Back Titan on Sept 10th - was "harassed" into doing it. I'm not athletic and don't exercise enough (at all?)... Seeing as you happen to be starting "Dare to Care" - I may as well collect for you guys!"

We contacted Stephen to find out more about his fundraising and he kindly told us his story in the form of a press release, along with a photo captioned "Stephen in Training, looking positive - not long to go." - this is just brilliant!

"When I saw that Today FM had announced their “Dare to Care” campaign – this seemed like the perfect vehicle for that “light and the end of the tunnel” that I would need , to get out of the car and complete in Hell and Back on Sept 10th. A great cause in the “Irish Cancer society” and a chance to raise a few euros.”

On a serious note – Both Stephen's Dad and his friend Aidan’s Dad passed away in 2010 and 2014 due to Cancer so respectively this cause is close to their hearts!

So, we DARE you to get behind the Galway Griffin-er who will attempt his first Hell and Back Titan on 10th Sept in Bray, by simply sharing his story or donating whatever funds you can spare: https://www.justgiving.com/sg-hellandback

Pain is something Stephen Griffin will know all about. Not long out of the shock of signing up for “Hell and Back Titan” , he  ponders on the future , if there is one afterwards. After ducking and diving for years avoiding fundraisers, mass gate collections , 5k , 8k , 9k , Charity runs and walks and crawls – Now – it all comes together. Stephen explains – “A good friend of mine Aidan ( “a” not “e” ) Mc Hugh harassed me into thinking that Hell and Back Titan in Killruderry in Wicklow on September 10th , would be an excellent idea. My wife Martina and Aidan’s wife Claire will also be part of the team”. Stephen went on to reminisce –“When I was 20 , this would have been mighty craic – running around like an eejit and then off for pints – Now , having surpassed the big 4-0 , no longer seemed like it would be a possibility for those in senior years..”

Best of luck Stephen, you absolute legend!
