If football hadn't suffered enough controversy of late, yet another incident has gripped the footballing world...and it all happened during an U14s match in Edinburgh.

The clip below shows a penalty shootout between Hutchison Vale and Newcraighall Leith Vics. There is silverware at stake so tensions are already running high...then this happens!

Former top football official Willie Young has even been asked to give his take on the incident that has football blogs the world over chattering.

He said: "The Laws of the Game state that a penalty kick has only been completed when the Referee decides it has. (Law 14).

"It also states that “when a penalty kick is taken….. a goal is awarded if, before passing between the goalpost and under the crossbar, the ball touches either or both of the goalposts and/or the crossbar and/or the goalkeeper.

The Referee could have opted to decide that the penalty kick had been completed when the ball was 'saved' initially by the goalkeeper, in which case he would not have awarded the goal."

Hutchison Vale, who's player took the penalty in the clip above, went on to win the cup.
