ZAP!...KABLAMMY!....POWW!
The gloriously campy Batman TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward debuted 50 years ago, this week, 1966. It ran for only three seasons between 1966 and 1968, but delivered a whopping 120 episodes during that run. (Episodes ran twice a week for much of that time.)
For anybody of a certain vintage here in Ireland, Batman was as much a staple of Saturday mornings as a huge bowl of Frosties and your Dad giving out that you were still in your PJ's.
Kids may scoff at it now but for many of us it was unmissable craic and was the inspiration for many's the KAPOW filled faked fights.
It was just as memorable for it's remarkable rogues's galley of villains as much as it was for the caped crusader and his work experience assistant.
Danny DeVito did a fine job in the movie, but there will only ever be ONE The Penguin!
...and of course before Rachel and Ross there was Batman and Catwoman!
And those glorious fight scenes!
...and of course the greatest TV theme of all time!
