A man had a part of his ear bitten off in Carrigart, Co. Donegal over the weekend.
The incident occurred during what Gardai described as a ‘melee’ with several men from Northern Ireland during the Donegal International Rally.
The rally, which attracted a crowd of 35,000, saw up to 50 vehicles involved in races on the main Letterkenny to Derry road at 6am on Sunday.
Gardaí say 59 people were held for various offences over the three days of the rally, twice the number of arrests for the same event last year.
