Last summer Jon Hynes and his friend Sean Cahill Sea Kayayked their way around the country and filmed the experience! The documentary really is a super watch, and was deservedly nominated for Adventure Movie of the Year at Outsider Magazine awards.

Jon made his way from Cork (not by kayak sadly) to tell Anton all about the experience and the documentary (watch it below)

Listeners can vote for him via the Sea Kayak Around Ireland Facebook page and see the official site too

Jon Hynes is a 42 year all round kayaker / adventurer from Garrettstown who has been kayaking for 30 years. His journey around Ireland summer was the pursuit of a dream inspired by his friend and mentor Donal Dowd. Donal kayaked around Ireland many years ago and introduced Jon to the sport with a week long trip up the West coast in 1996. Since then, Jon has become one of Ireland's well known Kayakers. He used to kayak in the Alps in France (where he met Sean Cahill), Nepal and on the Zambezi river

Sean Cahill went around the country with Jon. The 50 year old Secondary school teacher from Ennis in Co. Clare is a lifelong Kayaker who has raced the world’s toughest race, the Devizes to Westminster. He has also Sea Kayaked across the Irish Sea and has competed at the highest level in surf lifesaving. His playground is the coast of Co. Clare and his ability and knowledge of the ocean gave him the perfect tools for his attempt with Jon to Sea Kayak around Ireland.

The lads took the interaction of wind, tide, swell and climate into account in their decision making. The climate was the big factor that let them down in another atrocious Irish summer!

They covered over 1500km of coastline and completed it in 38 days!

2015 had several attempts - 6 other pairs at the start of the documentary - did they all make it?
